4 Tips For Finding The Right Dining Room Table

If you are moving into a new home or decorating your new home, getting a new dining room table can transform a space and make it feel like home. A dining room table is both a place where you gather and a place where you eat, and you want to get a table that works for those functions and looks good at the same time. This can require some thought and planning.

Tip #1: Measure Your Space

You need to know how much space you have to work with. The first thing you need to do is to measure your space. You don't want your dining room table to take up the entire room. You are going to want to leave at least a foot and half to two feet of space around your dining room table, so you have room to walk around and pull out chairs. You don't want your table to be so cramped in the space that it takes choreography to figure out how to get in and out of the table when it is full.

A cramped dining room doesn't create a welcoming feeling and isn't functional, so always measure the space.

Tip #2: Get the Right Shape

Second, you need to consider the shape of the room. If the room is square, either a circular or a square table works well. Square and circular tables look best in rooms with equal sides; they can look unbalanced and awkward in long rooms.

If you have a rectangular, long space, you will want to go with either an oval or a rectangular-shaped table. A longer table will effectively fill a longer and larger room. These are just general design guidelines but they can be helpful to keep in mind.

Tip #3: Test with a Mock-Up

When you decide on a table you may like, you will want to use a mock-up. Measure out the space that the table will take up and put down some tape. If you have any chairs, bring them in, and see what it would be like to pull a chair in and out of the table. Walk around the layout, and make sure that the table you like would work and feel right in your space.

Tip #4: Be Careful with Colors

Finally, you are going to want to be careful with colors. Tables tend to be something that you have around for a while, so think carefully about getting a table in a trending color. Instead, stick to a color that will look good and always be on-trend, such as a grey, black, or brown table. You can add trendy colors to the dining room with the table accessories or by adding padding to the chairs.

When it comes to purchasing dining tables, you need to measure your space to know what size table will fit. Take in the shape of the room and pick a table shape that complements the room shape. When you find a table you like, be sure to choose an always on-trend color and test out the table's size with a mock-up.
